Herbydaceous grew out of my own midlife turning point, when I started to notice I’d drifted away from myself.

Like many women, I reached midlife with a sense that I was capable, caring and resilient — and yet something felt out of rhythm. I could hold things together, support others, put on a show, keep moving forward… but it took more effort than it used to. Somewhere along the way, I’d lost the ease of listening to myself.
I felt most free in nature – and still do
I’ve always been drawn to nature — not as an escape, but as a place of recognition. As a child, and a tomboy, it was where I felt most free, embodied and unselfconscious; climbing huge fruit trees in abandoned allotments, spending hours in the garden exploring the plants and insects and joyfully running full pelt across the beach towards the sea at Woolacombe.
As an adult, it became something deeper: a language, a philosophy. Plants, seasons and cycles offered metaphors that helped me understand my own inner life — without judgement, diagnosis or pressure to fix anything.
I was living out of rhythm with myself
Over time, I began to understand how powerful nature connection can be for emotional wellbeing and personal growth — especially for women navigating midlife and life transitions. Gentle, but powerful self-reflection, grounded in the rhythms of the natural world, offered a way back to myself that felt supportive rather than demanding.

Herbydaceous is my way of sharing those insights with other midlife women who might need a moment to breathe, reconnect, laugh or simply feel seen.
Nature doesn’t rush.
It doesn’t force growth.
It responds to conditions — and trusts its own timing.
That perspective slowly changed how I related to myself.
Instead of asking “What’s wrong with me?”
I began asking “What season am I in?”
Herbydaceous grew from that shift.

A way of growing
My background is in horticulture, mental health and nature connection, but more than anything, this work is rooted in lived understanding — of what it means to be strong for a very long time, and what it takes to soften without losing yourself.
The Reflections I create are gentle, nature-inspired invitations — not therapeutic guided practices or solutions, blending observations from the natural world with emotional awareness — to help you notice where you are, and to meet yourself there with a little more kindness.
These reflections aren’t about fixing or improving yourself — they’re simply invitations to notice where you are. You can explore them here on the Reflections collection page.
Sometimes, growth simply begins with attention.
That’s the heart of Herbydaceous.

With warmth,
Laura
